And I ran…

Posted on: October 30, 2007

I ran so far awaaaaaaaay.

Erm… not really.  But I watched a bunch of OTHER PEOPLE run last Saturday.   🙂

Every October, The Hubbster and I make the trek up to Georgetown to deejay one of the cross country track meets at Southwestern University.  This year’s was spectacular, as we couldn’t have asked for better weather.  The first part of the meet was a little chilly — runners get up at stoopid hours, y’all!  (We’re usually at the university around 6 am or so.)  It’s probably one of the many reasons why I’m not a runner, because I am sooooooooo not a morning person.

But I digress.  The meet was a little bittersweet for us – as it looks like it will be our last.  Our pal “Uncle Sanders”, who designs and coordinates this particular meet, will most likely be stepping down after this year.  It’s a lot of work for one man (and his wife)!

So here are a few photos from the meet:

aaaaaand they’re off!

Notice all the yellow and black flags in the background?  The Hubbster and I helped Sanders and his wife hang them around the course until MIDNIGHT the previous night.  Yeah… and remember how I said we had to be at the university around 6 am -ish??  Um, yeah.  So tired.

See?  Me.  Sleepy.  Soaking up the sun because it was too fricken cold in the shade.  😉

See the little green car up front?  That’s Uncle Sanders at the wheel as official “pace car”.   Or perhaps he’s there to make sure no one collapses from sheer exhaustion?  Who knows?

Here’s a better shot of Sanders doin’ his thang.

I would have to ask Uncle Sanders for the history of cross country running, and just watch in amazement as he proceeds to somehow tie in references to snorkeling, iron ore, and the Hale Bopp comet.

Truly, the man is a bubbling font of knowledge.

*giggle* And it’s sad because you KNOW he’d do it, too! 🙂
